Nissan Is Making a High-Performance Nismo Version of its All-Electric Leaf
Is the age of the electric hot hatch finally upon us?
Nissan revealed the second generation of its all-electric Leaf hatchback earlier this month, with an output of 147 horsepower and 236 lb.-ft. of torque, as well as an estimated range of 230 miles That’s all well and good, but what’s suddenly got us interested in an upcoming, high-performance Nismo version.
Recently at an event in Europe, Nissan confirmed it will be bringing a Leaf Nismo concept to the Tokyo Motor Show later this month. According to Autocar, this car is meant to preview the final design that will be put into production.
Nissan released official info and pictures of the car, giving us an idea of what we’ll be seeing come October 25th
Compared to the normal Leaf, the Nismo concept features a more aggressive red-accented front bumper, red-accented side-skirts, a partially blacked-out hood, a black roof, a rear centre fog light, and different wheels. According to Nissan, all of these visual upgrades improve aerodynamic performance without increasing drag. The inside is mostly unchanged from the regular Leaf, save for a few red trim pieces.
Nissan also says that the car has sport-tuned suspension, high-performance tires, and a custom-tuned computer that delivers “instant acceleration at all speeds.” What that means for battery power or capacity we will have to wait until later this month in Tokyo to find out.
